View Full Version : [ubuntu] vlc 0.9.2 won't play DVDs

I've recently installed vlc 0.9.2 on hardy. The update plays audio files, audio CDs, and video files. But not DVDs.

For DVDs, when I launch, I get an isolated frame, a few bits of audio (less than a second's worth), and then a frozen video frame. If I navigate to the next "chapter", I get another frozen frame.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times.

Furthermore, despite attempting to remove the prior vlc version, 0.8.6f, the earlier version is still there. And that version plays DVDs fine.

Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?

Just upgraded to v.0.9.3, offered by update manager today. No change whatsoever.

0.8.6f still plays DVDs fine, however.

Hi jlh.

Do you have the right codecs?

I sure have the right codecs for v.0.8.6f. I checked files against a list for 0.9.2, and seemed to have everything. If someone can post them, I'll check again.
