On my laptop running:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092510 Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.3. I am getting the following message:
"The connection was refused when attempting to contact rc12.overture.com" is typical of a lot of failed connections I am now experiencing.

I am running NoScript and Adblock Plus and user agent set to IE7.0 but even with scripts fully allowed there are many sites I cannot get to. Admittedly most of these seem to be clicktracker sites and where possible I can find the actual nominated page address within the link text, but often I still get refused.

I am also using the extended "hosts" file could this be the probelm?

I have no problem accessing ALL sites from my pc which is running Feisty with FF2 and the same addins plus Safecache and Safehistory. The pc is lan cable connected to my wireless router while the laptop is via wlan from the same router.
Any ideas please?

Solved
It was the hosts file.
