Hello,

I've got a Dell XPS m1330 with an nVidia 8400 GS card (nowdays a pretty infamous one... :D).

It came with Ubuntu 7.10 preinstalled, but I upgraded to 8.04. Everything seemes to work perfectly, but yesterday I tried to give a talk and realized that the VGA output wasn't working.

I did what I had learned from my previous computer, that is plug it in the projector and then turn it on.

However, it wasn't working and I had to use a different computer.

Anyone has an idea on how to check if the VGA port works or how to turn it on?

Thanks :D

have you got the nvidia settings app installed? It took me a while to remember that was how to set up a second monitor or change configurations.

Have you tried Fn + F8?

Hi, Guys.
Futuroimperfetto is right, I have the very same problem: the vga output doesn't work.
I have installed all the nVidia drivers (infact, I can also run Compiz effects) and tried fn+F8 several times, but nothing...
Restarting the computer, too, doesn't work at all...
Can anybody help?
Thanks and regards

Herger

Same problem here on a Dell XPS Studio 13 running Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit. The Graphics card is NVIDIAŽ GeForceŽ 9500M - 256MB. I have installed the driver directly downloaded from the Nvidia site. But apparently the VGA output does not work.

By the way, it seems there is no Fn+F8 option available on this keyboard as apparent from the pictures on the keys. There is another key between F12 and "Insert" that looks like a toggle switch between displays, but that does not seem to respond either.

Desperately looking for a solution here. Otherwise, I shall need to have a dual partition of Windows just for my presentations! :(
