how can i get an xbox controller to work in linux?

I'm assuming you mean the old Xbox controller, not the Xbox 360 one.

The driver for it (called xpad) is built into the kernel. Just plug it in. If that doesn't work, reboot with it plugged in. It works for me.

Let us assume for a minute that he did mean the new 360 controller, which is already USB and does not require an adaptor. Has anyone had the opportunity to find out if xpad will work with this new controller yet?

what are the games that can use it? cuz right now, apparently, it dosnt work with anything
