I have a question, I just discovered that my Nvidia Geforce 8500 GT fan is physically broken (Unsure as to how this happened) however currently I have the side off the computer and a regular little fan blowing over it. My Question is until I can afford to get a new card should this be ok, or should I worry?

Thanks,
Angel

Well - this is less then ideal as you can imagine.

The short answer is that this is a very termporary solution. In the old days computers were more reliant on being "closed" boxes - using the resulting "suction" to pull heat out of the computer through the power supply. Now days things have changed a bit. I would be more worried of damaging other components with foriegn materials entering the case at this point.

Secondly - I just worked on a computer that had caught fire (no joke) because a fault GPU fan melted.

Just a thought.

hmmm I assumed as much, it should only be a few weeks before I can get a new one, Hence the question.

Luckily the 8500 runs pretty cool as is. I had one for a few days before I upgraded to the 8600 GT.

Best of luck.

Well I believe the entire card is a dud, so after reseating it quite a few times, and my computer refusing to boot, I finally yanked the card and put in a 7300 GT which I yanked out of my sons computer. Unfortunately that only leaves him the on board Nvidia 6100, I suppose that will have to do for now.

Thanks for your help MrFSL I do appreciate it.
