I tried playing King's Quest last night. I really liked it. Great sense of humor, loved the game play, and so on. :)

However, I messed up. I tried remapping keys so I could use w-a-s-d instead of the up-left-down-right arrow keys, and made some other changes, and whil in the process, I accidentally mapped the space bar to both "Up" and "Confirm Selection". Please don't ask me how it happened. I'm still not sure how, but I'm convinced it's probably a pretty embarrassing story.

As a result of my embarrassing story, I am now unable to play KQ. :( When I try, my efforts to talk to people, open doors,or equip items, are interpreted by the game as me wanting the cursor to move upwards.

This makes me sad. I really like this game and want to play it. How do I reset all controls to default? I searched the forums but found no answer.

Oh... You mean http://kqlives.sourceforge.net/
Not http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King%27s_Quest

go to .kq in your home folder (*ctrl + h* in nautilus to view hidden files.)
Remove the setup and kq cfg files.

Running the game will recreate a default setup. :)
