Getting Myth to automatically suspend computer

So after going through the hoops to get suspend and wake-on-alarm working with Myth, I have one quirk to solve. If I manually run 'mythbackend' in the terminal everything works fine. If the backend is started automatically at boot, the machine fails to suspend. Any ideas why manually starting mythbackend works but doesn't when started automatically?
