I didn't think of that at first, but my daughter just may like it. (and since I'm trying to make her more comfortable on the computer so she knows how to do things.. I may just be installing this theme..)

Of course then I have to hunt for a theme for my son...

Very good! =D>

And I really mean that.

Ubuntu really needs a great variation of themes.

This "girl theme" is almost the complete opposite of many of the other community themes, that are attempting to be serious, modern and slick. This one is simply just fun and happy. So it would be a great addition and broaden the audience appeal.

I hope Cannonical will include this in the community theme package. It might need a little more polish and "Ubuntu proofing" but it's a very good start.

Intrepid Ibex is the first in this new design/release cycle so variation and creativity should be encouraged. This theme offers both.

I've never installed a theme before, how do I do it?

I know.. it sounds stupid but I haven't. I've gone with modifying the themes that come with the distro, not really "adding" one. I think with KDE I could just drag-and-drop to install parts but I don't know about with Gnome.

Once you stop laughing, could you give me some directions or links?

When my fiancée sees that theme, I think she will seriously consider dropping Windows XP. Nice job!

The only thing she needs XP for is Photoshop and since I was able to install Photoshop under my Wine with no problems, she really has no reason to stick with her slow, crashy, virus-infested OS.

"Linux" and "Girl" will never be in the same sentence besides "That girl thinks you're a freak for liking Linux."
As a man who uses linux for over 10 years, and in fact; however politically incorrect - I like girls.

Wait till one of the girls see this

That looks perfect I'm moving my girlfriend off of vista and onto ubuntu. Only problem is I can't get the theme to install! When I drag the tar.gz file in the GTK folder area it says that I can't overwrite the file.

How do I install? I'd like to get this running for my lady.

In your menu go system > preferences > appearance

In the theme tab click on install then navigate to the theme.

Not my personal preference but my wife loves it.

Hahahahhahaa!! Remember when you could change Nokia phones language settings via 4-4-2 or something on the menu when your friend wasn't looking? They'd check their phone later and all the menu's would be in Mandarin or something.... This has to be the OS version of that - I'd love to install this on a few friends PCs :)

All jokes aside though, good work I think by_tunahan (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=593371) for young girls getting them into Linux I'd expect they would absolutely love it so well done!

Yah I'd agree with you on the whole asthetic part. I've tried that (tried again too). It always says "cannot copy directory over directory." After I downloaded the file I extracted it and then tried to install the gtk version in appearance. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe it doesn't work for Juanty?

Nope my wife`s got it on jaunty, the family pc and her netbook.

I`m pretty sure that`s what I did. Try unpacking the tarball and moving the individual themes (Clearlooks-Cairo-Pink Clearlooks-Cairo-Purple)
into /home/your_gf`s_username/.themes

Drag and drop the tar.gz file into Appearance or click 'install' under the Appearance window and find the relevant tar.gz.

Nicely done. I'm the dark, edgy theme type of person so this doesn't fit me at all. I only ever knew ONE girl that would have loved this if she would have used Ubuntu, but sadly, that was back when I was in Junior High and it's been quite a few years since I was back there. :lolflag:

Again, great work on making this theme for others. :)

Stuff like this is really cool IMO, looks hot and I bet cosmetics like this would be really great for introducing Linux to girls in the age 6-12 like a little sister or something, an untapped market really, more geek-girls for the world :D
And ofc you could probably lure some older once in to the fold as well ^^
