I saw this video on Youtube

and while it's comical, I was wondering if it works any better now?

I was using the speech thing ~2 months ago. When I tried it I had to literally scream into my mic about 10 times for it to pick up what I said (could have been because of my accent). I really hated it :p

When I tried Vista when my laptop arrived, I actually found it worked quite well.

Is there anything similar in Linux?

It actually works pretty well in Vista.
It guides you through the process of recognising your accent etc. Then you can do more or less everything by voice command.
I even dictated a letter, and printed it just by voice.
It's actually quite useful for me as I can't always sit up to use the Computer.

Once it's been trained it works great.

I used to play around with the speech recognition tech back when the SAPI packages were available on XP. It was really fun to use and got it right most of the time.

I tried it for a while, and I have to admit, it's pretty cool.
But then I couldn't figure out how to keep it from starting up automatically and it would freeze! :D That's fixed now.
Since I really don't have a use for it, I don't use it anymore. I like typing and using the mouse too much.
I would probably stop using computers if I couldn't use a keyboard and mouse.
