If you have any sensitive documents, (resume, important stuff, etc..) I would recommend burning them to a CD as a backup before installing Ubuntu.

Photos, videos, music, documents. Just about anything you normally use in Windows, except of course Windows system files. I have all that stuff burned on a DVD and then copy it to the appropriate folder once I have Ubuntu up and running.

The trend these days is to just keep all your files online anway.

So put all your documents onto Google Doc, all your photos on Flickr, and just get your music from deezer.com

Just my suggestion. but you can use any physical mediums if you don't mind being seen as outdated: so USB's, Floppy, DVD, BluRay whatever.
