What is the best browser? I am currently using the lame Konqueror in Kubuntu. I don't like it. I don't like firefox either. I like Maxthon and IE7 but I don't think that I can get them to work! Even with Wine Maxthon doesn't run. It starts and never fully loads. The window doesn't even pop up! Can anyone help me???

Maybe say what features you want in a browser and people can make recommendations.
There is opera some users like that.

Opera is the best browser on any platform.

Epiphany! But I think it's best in a GTK environment like Gnome.

Plugin support is terrible. This is probably also the fault of the plugin creators, but Flash is particularly bad. Both Firefox and Konqueror use the same Flash plugin installation, but Konqueror crashes on me at least once an hour while browsing a flash-enhanced website. Firefox rarely gives me a problem.

Konqueror also greatly suffers from using only compiled extensions - each extension has to be compiled for that version of Konqueror and that architecture, and sometimes even platform. A firefox extension, on the other hand, is completely cross-platform, as it is interpreted XUL markup. A far better method.

I find that statement difficult to believe, it would be hard to argue that Firefox is the better browser, for Linux anyway, followed closely by Opera, I tried Epiphany and to say it was less than ideal is an understatement. Opera at the moment is just to complex right now for the average user to set up.

IDK. Firefox just doesn't seem to like me. Flash content never works correctly, Konqueror, in my opinion, is totally lame. You're definetely right about plugin support! Zip zilch nadda. I like it to look somewhat like IE, to be customizable, support plugins, and have tabs.

My vote has to go to Opera, as well. I don't have any issues with it whatsoever on my systems, and it seems to fit your requirements.

Epiphany is faster, it doesn't require as much memory as firefox. It's better intergrated in GTK/Gnome.

Yes, if you're addicted to all the addons then firefox is better. If you don't uses add-ons with an exception off add-blocker and the like which epiphany have, then there's no reason to use firefox.

Install Konqueror plugins package.

You can also create your own stuff fore example using dcop+servicemenus+simple shell scripting!

Well flash is a soso issue no matter how you take it.
Once flash 10 is complete maybe things will get better stability wise, a lot of people report its betas and RC's are more stable then flash 9,

For me -
Firefox - is all rounder in productivity but sometimes crashes because of flash videos.
Opera - really fast and stable one but not as productive as firefox.
Konquerer - waste of time.
Iceape - very snappy and has a netscape look to it.
Epiphany - never used it.
lynx - when using ubuntu server need a cli browser to surf the net, very handy text based browser.

Yeah right.

Opera is in the repos and they offer a .deb on their website.

I don't see why that is hard.

PS: I don't think there are that many average linux users.

My only issue with opera right now is that flash still feels underdone in it, I wish that adobe will get a friggin clue and make flash for linux compliant for all browsers.

It is faster that much is true and I like the integration with gnome however it will not let me log into any site, it refuses to let me type in the username space or any other space. For me that was a deal breaker right there to bad because the speed is the fastest i have used.

Having you mention Epiphany in this thresd made me curious enough to fix Epiphanys problem on my machine it turns out the default font was set to large, Epiphany is like smoking once you start it's almost impossible to stop. Thanks for making me want to try it again. :)

1. Firefox - slow, clogged, and featureless without a bunch of additions
2. Opera -fast and stable
3. Flock - Firefox with more junk
4. Epiphany - meh
5. Konqueror - nice but slow
6. Google Chrome - fast, unstable, lacking in customization options
7. Internet Explorer - slow, bloated, insecure...
8. Kazehakase - fast and stable - think Firefox, but better

At any rate, what exactly about flash doesn't work right for you?

Firefox is a good all-around choice, even if it's rather barren without extensions. It's fairly fast. I have yet to find an adblocking system on any other browser that I like as much as Adblock Plus along with the Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper. CookieSafe and NoScript are nice, too.

Opera is remarkably fast and has a lot of features...but I think it tries to do too much. I just want a web browser! I don't care about the e-mail client, the note system, et cetera. 99% of the Opera "widgets" are pretty stupid.

Epiphany isn't worth the trouble.

Konqueror is a browser that I want to like since being able to surf the web and browse your files in the same application is pretty cool. Unfortunately, Konqueror isn't as fast as Firefox or Opera and crashes frequently. I also have yet to find any third-party Konqueror extensions.
