View Full Version : [ubuntu] [SOLVED] Question about Screenlock

September 23rd, 2008, 05:36 PM
I initially was intrigued by Linux/Ubuntu because I thought it was totally impervious to viruses and malware .... silly me. I haven't had a problem with either since installing Ubuntu. But I've only had Ubuntu on my machine for about 3 days.

The question comes to 'Screenlock.' I currently have it set up that when my Screensaver comes on Screenlock activates. When Screenlock activates does that stop anything coming through the internet connection? Is it like if someone would try to break into my computer from the Internet would my computer act like a proverbial or should that be 'virtual' brick wall?

Thank much.

Have a Great Day,

Yes, it's still connected to the internet and still interacting with it. However, for any significant malicious code to be executed you would have to be there to execute it yourself and then enter in your password (which hopefully, most people have enough common sense not to do).
You don't have anything to worry about :)

Screenlock is only for physical access. All usual processes still run behind. It's just as vulnerable to remote attacks as when unlocked.
