How does a person revert from version 177 to 173? I have the 9800 GT. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried System > Administration > Hardware Drivers?

I'd like to know how to do this without using x seeing as my error is:

(WW)NV:Ignoring unsupported device 0x10de0533 (GeForce 7000M (rev a2)) at 00@00:12:0
(EE) No devices detected.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Edit: Solved for me - See this post

If you have saved log files please file a bug.

Did EnvyNG solve it also for you ?

This my xorg.conf for the moment (just added coolbits)

I don't think it was Ubuntu bug... According to the log I read at the time, the driver (177.76) has no support for my 7000M. Will try to find it again.

Yes! Thank you very much (it didn't even enter my head)!
I'm up and running with 173.

Ok...:)

According to repo documentation 7000M is supported

http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/nvidia-glx-177

This can be the reason for everyone with trouble that the
detection is wrong or complete missed.

I'm having trouble too, with my 6200 graphics, but haven't had time to persue it.

hmmm... very weird!
I'd say that's where the problem may be!
