thunar and nautilus are capable of showing information about each file in a detailed list. is there a way to export this information to a text file or something similar?

thanks, chanserv

(sorry if this has been asked before, or it is in the wrong section, i couldent find anything on it.)

just open a terminal and use

ls -l <directory>

where <directory> is the directory you want the contents of. Copy and paste to an editor. viola! your text file.

You can copy all of, or any part either file system.

Like right now I'm in Intrepid and I could copy my "home" to another location (could be some location on my hard drive, and external drive, CDRW, etc.). Look, I can copy my stuff (Lance) to anything:
