My First question is in regards to the removal of the two year warranty with the pangolin and darter? Any particular reasons? If not, I personally would like a two year one when/if I order a laptop. As 195 is a lot of money to spend to supplement the 1 year warranty.

Second is there somewhere on the website that explains the specifics of how the warranty works? Because I cant find one:(

Lastly My friend was asking if it is possible to purchase the 3 year warranty near the end of the first year like apple care allows?

Well, in a nutshell. Our suppliers do not have a two-year option for us right now. So, we are unable to pass that particular option down.

UPDATE: The warranty can be upgraded within 90 days of the ship date on LAPTOPS. Desktops... 30 days.

I just updated my last answer regarding extending the warranty after purchasing.

Awesome So if it arrives after a couple of months I would just email and state I would like to upgrade the warranty? This is good because it lowers the initial cost and thus lowers the taxes/duty as it crosses to Canada.

Speaking of Canada how does that affect the warranty since thats where I live?

It doesn't affect it your warranty.

No duties at all on this. I will be posting about this soon, as I just went through it. No duties on any electronics when coming from the USA to Canada.

When I read the warranty, I was sad to see that it doesn't cover shipping to and from Canada. If I need to use the warranty and have it shipped back for any reason, that means it will cost me an $166 there and back? Le boo :(

International Orders

Duties and applicable taxes are not calculated or charged by System 76. International customers are solely responsible for any shipping costs, as well as duties and/or taxes that may be incurred from the international transit of any part or system for repair.

This policy was originally intended for non-Canadian international customers who purchased the computers in the US and either took them, or had them shipped, overseas as a way to circumvent our policy of not selling internationally. However, we did cover warranty shipping to and from Canada.

Unfortunately, due to recent hikes in shipping charges, we have had to revise our warranty shipping policies for our Canadian customers (and I've brought your questions to my supervisors so that they can clarify our policies on the website if necessary).

If you have a shell/motherboard level problem that requires the entire computer to be shipped in for repair, you will have to pay for the shipping, and we will make repairs or replacements under warranty. This is very rare.

For component-level problems (which would account for 99% of the warranty issues we process), we will replace the part under warranty and pay for shipping.

Just a thought you can forward on to your supervisor:

To be consistent & fair, you should pay for all warranty shipping costs to Canada. Since the shell/motherboard problems are rare it probably would not cost you much, possibly nothing.
