Ubuntu in VMWare on Macpro no 3D

I have searched the web all over, found one gazillion solutions, for various versions of Ubuntu. Could some one give the direct way to get the 3D drivers to work ?

MacPro with ATI X1900XT Mac card, Ubuntu 8.04 run through VMWare 2.

All I've done so far has resulted in either Mesa driver or no driver at all (no GUI)

VMWare Fusion does not support OpenGL, only DirectX at this time. So essentially, there is no 3D support for linux virtual machines.

I guess I have to go on trying with Bootcamp
