So yeah, parental controls have been set up...but I managed to snag a Terminal clone (Terminal is blocked, but only the app).

Any way I can use the Terminal to get past parental controls?

Ask your parents.

Why?
Ask your parents.
+1: It's always a good idea to keep on speaking terms with those who might be in a position to revoke privileges.

Most parents install parental controls because they what to protect their children. They what to protect their children from accidentally viewing content that is inappropriate or endangering themselves by chatting with people on the wrong channel. Most of the parents trust their children, the parents just don't trust the websites or chat rooms. Talk to your parents about the website or chat room you want to visit. If they agree with you, and the software allows them to, they may give you access to the website or chat room. If you try to bypass the controls, then you give them a reason not to trust you. By talking to them, they may get the impression that you are mature enough to engage in those chats or websites.

What you put on the Internet is not private information. You should never do anything on the Internet that you don't what other people to know about.

There are plenty of ways to get root in Mac OS X, but it's up to you to find instructions. I also think you should talk with your parents. If they are the ones who own the computer and pay for the internet access, then they have the right to control what internet content comes into their house.

Okay, seeing as how no one knows the circumstances, allow me to explain. I am 17, a senior in high school. We get laptops from the school that come pre-blocked. Also, please explain any solutions...I am pretty much a moron when it comes to most extreme stuff.

Thank you.

Have you checked into the consequences of tampering with school property or using school property in a way it was not intended to be used?

After examining your use of the English language, I am guessing you live on the West Coast of the US. If that is true, tampering with that computer could have consequences greater than being expelled. It is also considered a criminal offense in the US. In the UK, the penalty could be as high as 5 years in jail.

If you don't know that much about computers; then, you could easy be caught tampering with or misusing the computer.

Funny, I live in Maine :D

Anyway, yea I have considered and I said screw it, what the hell. The computer people in charge are pretty lax about it.

Always check with the administrator of the hardware you are using.

That is not your hardware, it belongs to the school and either you or your parents, or both, most likely signed a release when you received the laptop that you would "follow the rules" of using their hardware.

If it is something legal you need to look at and not "porn" related, then just go to the IT guys in the school or bring it up to your teacher and I'm sure they could "unlock" the PC for you to use.

Anytime you are given a laptop, whether it is in school or for work purposes, you must not treat it as your own. There are reasons that the laptop is locked down and if they decide not to make it accessable to you, then that is their decision to make and not yours.

What is it that you are trying to view?

If you own this computer, you should have the ability to change the settings. If you still don't know how, you can contact the manufacturer.

If you don't own this computer (I mean, own, not have), then it is illegal and not for this forum. Ask the owner of it.
