Well here we go...

Been using ubuntu since 6.06 and its time for my first actual update.
I'm installing onto an HP brio and I've installed an ATI radeon 9550SE (from Micro Star Int'l, stolen from an OEM i had laying around) in hopes of doing some decent graphics splashyness with it.

Problem 1: i get compiz running ASAP which means its running OpenGL. its hard to see when you've got fuzz all over your screen.
So I disable Compiz.

I enable all the right drivers and such and i try running fgl_gears
Here's the result:

Whats going on? i've prodded everywhere and i cant find it.

If it means anything, i'm using a DVI->VGA adapter because i only have a VGA monitor. I can try using S-Video but i really dont know how well it'll solve the problem.
