hey, its not fair to put a thread titled 'girls' on such a male dominated forums site... was expecting something completely different ;) lol

nope, afraid I'm not one. In ecology there is a technique for estimating populations where you mark several specimens at random, than go back later and collect a random sample. The proportion of non-marked to marked specimens (assuming the specimens are completely mixed during this period) allows you to estimate total population size. Thus, find some of the girls (not all!) on this site, come back a week later, and check all the recent forums. Of those that are female on the forums, see how many you recorded in the previous week, and use this to estimate population size. (PS may be heavily biased since the girls probably don't post equally).

There are some women on the staff here, though nobody is sure whether Laroza is one. Laroza prefers to keep it that way.

Real Men use LFS or just the Command Line :).

Anyways I do not see why anyone would be surprised about a female using Linux.

I have gotten my girlfriend to try it,my friends mother to try it,my teacher to try it,and tons of other females and most of them all kept using it do to the simplicity and just working.

I'll own up to being a female but not a girl because I'm not young enough.

My son has installed Ubuntu on both his and his fiancée's computers, and he contacts me for technical support if he can't figure something out. (Latest adventure: his trashing the xorg.conf file on her machine.) Now isn't this the reverse of how it's supposed to happen - young males helping the older, clueless females? :)

Who or what is? (I'm a bit dense this morning :) )

not you, the OP.

now as for all of this Men/Women/FBI talk, here are the base equasions we've been given to work with:
men = men
women = men
children = FBI

well FBI is gender neutral as it can be either men or women, so FBI=(men+women)/2
but as we already know, women = men, so children=FBI=(men+men)/2 which simplifies to FBI = men
and since children = FBI, children = men.

bottom line, the internet is men.

3 minutes is about right with WEP if someone is connected to the router over wireless. it takes longer if no one is using it.

with WPA, the cracker has to guess your password (by running the host/client handshake through a password dictionary). make it sufficiently hard and you'll be pretty secure.

in truth i just use WEP. every now and then i check my router's logs. no ones ever hacked it. if they did i probably still wouldnt up the security, unless it looked like they were being malicious, like uploading kylie minogue mp3s.

I remember in the late 1970's and early 1980's most programmers were female. If you were male, and a programmer at the time, many people thought you were gay.

That has changed significantly over the years. Now, I'm a manager for a group that develops software that runs on RHEL. Only 20% of the programmers are female.

For some reason I doubt that 20% of the people using this forum are female.

Females have other things to do that are more important than reading these forums. Females spend a disproportionate time with their children, cleaning house, balancing checkbooks, etc., compared to their male counterparts.

Impossible. Assembly code needs to be assembled. You'd have to have some operating system running to use it.

That's why real men use front panel toggle switches to directly set the op codes and then hit the cycle button... ;)

Kids don't make that easy. Our method is my wife handles getting them up in the morning (and off to school.. since I've already left for work) and I put them to bed at night (handy, since the timing for many of her activites are right around bedtime).

Even with this division we only get about 2 hours before it's time for us to go to bed to do anything! Either that or stay up longer and feel it in the morning!

Well, no one forced you to read it, so the person you should ask is yourself ;)

There are threads devoted to my gender, or lack thereof, if you found such discussion interesting.

Sure, it will be of a photograph of someone who could plausibly be me (in other words, not someone famous).

I am not sure if I will have a man or a woman, depends on what I can find. Either way, it will add to the conspiracy theorists. If it is a male, it will be seen as proof of being a man. If it is female, it will be a red herring. If it is undetermined, it will just add more kindling.

As far as the thread goes, there are lots of Ubuntu girls, women and females of the opposite sex all over the UF.

Personally, I would love to meet an Ubuntu woman.

I think that geeky chics are cool and I don't meet many girls or women that are geeky or like geeky guys.

I would specifically like to meet an Ubuntu using woman.

BTW It seems you know more Hindi than me now, I can't understand what you mean in your caption ("हाफर्क्राफ्त", "सर्पमीनोंस" - never heard or read about these words :|)

Sorry. I took a lot of liberty in writing that. Apparently, there is a restriction on title length.

हाफर्क्राफ्त is a monstrosity. It is meant to be the English word "hovercraft" however, I had a very poor transliteration tool. I will log out and use my Devanagari layout to type it out better. I can't change my keyboard in the terminal for some reason to Devanagari. (It would be, idealy, transliterated as "hofarkraft", I didn't want the "howar" if I used a "v".)

The second word is "सर्पमीन", possibly highly Sanskritised... The postposition "se" it tagged on because I was one space short... It means, probably, "eel".

I wanted to write: मेरी मँडराने वाली नाव सर्पमीनों से भरी ह (lost a maatraa in pasting...).

I realise it still doesn't make sense, but that is life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6D1YI-41ao
