For the last 20 days I have been trying to update my system. I have used package manager, update manager, apt-get update.

I keep getting errors the last is as follows:

W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used.GPG error: http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <ftpmaster@ubuntu.com>

W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy-updates/Release

W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

THIS WHAT I GET FROM APT-GET

I would edit my sources list:
gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.listand place # marks at the beginnings of the lines for the entries
http://archive.canonical.com hardy Release.gpg [189B] http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security Release.gpg [189B]

Try removing the comment (#) from the line arrow 1 is pointing at.

Thanks can be given by clicking the star thingy (arrow 2)

http://http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=86070&stc=1&d=1222083491

Sorry that picture is not very clear, it`s the line that says -

# deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu hardy partner

I have solved my problem. I went to the Software Sources in The Administration part of System and changed servers till I found one that did not show up with errors when ever I tried to update. When I finally found one there were close to 35 updates that needed to be applied.

Now All I have to do is remember how I did it!!! CRS!!! Thank you to all that tried to help!!! If I could find the little thing with the star and ribbon I would use it, but cannot!!!!
