Hey all,

Does anyone out there know how to make Amarok automatically download podcasts to disk?

I've been using hpodder for podcasts because it seems to be the only podcast software concerned with creating decent directory locations and file names, until I discovered Amarok.

Thanks folks,
glass.dimly

Not to speak for jmjohn here, but it doesn't. That link doesn't tell how to configure it to download podcasts _automatically_, which it doesn't seem to do on its own. I want to know because I like to listen to the weekly This American Life podcast, and download new episodes automatically, because they only make one episode available per week, so if I forget, I miss it. (It's a great radio show, by the way, for those who aren't aware of it. ThisAmericanLife.org.) As far as I'm able to figure out, Amarok doesn't do this.

Another issue is that it doesn't seem to display dates, which I think are normally available in the RSS feeds.

Yeah, too bad about how your link doesn't address the topic of the thread, though, huh?

Sorry.

I'm not the one asking questions .

Scroll down to the part that talks about rockbox.

Hey all,

Thanks for your comments. I figured it out, mostly.

If you want Amarok to automatically download a podcast, you have to first subscribe as described here: http://www.newlinuxuser.com/howto-use-amarok-to-listen-to-podcasts/ . Next, right click the podcast and tell it to "automatically download media".

Finally, this is the odd thing, you have to right click the most recent podcast under your subscribed podcasts and click "Download Media". Now, when you right-click podcasts (under playlists) and hit "refresh all" it actually downloads them to disk.

Also by right-clicking podcasts and selecting "Scan Interval" you can tell it to check for podcasts ever x hours. I haven't really tested that to see if it works, but it appears not to.

And google IS my buddy... ...but this quirk wasn't documented anywhere I could find, and I couldn't get it working for a few days.
