View Full Version : [other] [SOLVED] Mac G5 - add hard drive?

Hi all,
this is a somewhat embarrassing question. Anyways...
I happen to be the one who takes care of the computers in our office but I'm not too knowledgeable about Macs and am actually not so much of a hardware guy in general.

So, we have 2 G5 Macs, both from around 2004, and we desperately need to add another HDD in each of them. It looks like those machines requiere SATA drives but I fail to see how they're plugged in. I see the current HD and DVD drives plugged in to the motherboard but no more free plugs for more drives. Unless I'm missing something.
Could someone please tell me if those SATA drives can be daisy chained or how I can plug in more HDDs?

I attached 2 images with the (almost identical) open machines. Those are SATA drives, right? But how/where do I plug in another drive in the case?

Thanks for help.
Cheers.

The HD drive is the top right bay, there should be a spare slot below that with cable.

Hmmmmm, I haven't seen a cable there. But I'll check next time one of the machines is free.
Guess I have to come in a bit earlier than everyone else... :D

Thanks for the quick reply.

You can download manuals and other info from apple.com support.
cheers.

Thanks, I downloaded the manual and check again inside the case. I found it.
It's so well organized that even I didn't see it at first... :D

I must confess I like how Apple has laid out the Mac Pro's. Even if I'm not Mac user I would like to get my hands on that hardware. If only the price tag didn't make my eyes hurt.

Thanks again, problem solved. :)

Cheers.
