Hi,
I am new to ubuntu and i am trying to get some programs working and run updates.
My Internet is set up over a network that has a pop up box asking for a user name and password before you can connect to the Internet.
I cannot find a way to get the update manager and program installer to ask for the user name and password so that they can connect to the internet.
Hope this makes sense any help would be appreciated.

Thank you
Summer

Have you tried the Network Proxy under System->Preferences? It seems to that might do the trick.

Are you able to browse the web? how?

simplest way i can think is to launch your browser and go to some news site that keeps updating or something then update your system using apt-get or synaptic.
