I've been thinking of installing Windows 98 SE in a VM to play some old games (Final Fantasy 7 and 8 and The Sims mainly, since none work fully with Wine), but I've heard that Virtual Machines can't be used for gaming since they lack any support for hardware rendering, is there any VM that does support Direct3D and/or OpenGL?
Would these not work at all or would they be limited to software rendering (which may be ok since they are old games requiring fairly little in terms of graphics).
Another question I have is, would I be able to access the files in the VMs partition from my Ubuntu install, for example the save files of these games (been thinking of making a save file editor to practise programming)
