It would seem that the forums here was down for nearly 12 hours :|

Could an admin enlighten me?

btw, I'm just curious, there's no demands here :)

I'm just happy to be able to browse the forums again :)

Here's what I think happened:
The server admins had so much coffee that they started to have visions of PuRpLe pOnIeS. In an attempt to chase after them, they hit their head on the big red switch, which brought Ubuntu Forums to a grinding halt until someone more coherent was able to bring the servers back up.

maybe somewhere in the server code something divided by zero...

A proxy??

Oh, I forgot, this is a secure server ... my homegrown server doesn't use one, so I never thought of the proxy as the problem.

What was that movie called again?

I recall something similar on The Twilight Zone.

The movie was called Twilight Zone:The Movie and had a 'copy' of that Twilight Zone episode theme ;)

The servers have been down for upgrade and replacement

Following the recent purchase of Canonical by Microsoft we have been replacing the servers with MS server 2008.

We will be replacing the Forum software in the near future and will start supporting MS products in sub-forums.

That was from a Twilight Zone episode from 1963 called "Nightmare at 20,000 feet (http://www.twilightzone.org/html/guides/tzep/tz_123.html)." I loved that show!

They remade the story for the TZ movie, but that version wasn't as good (IMHO), even though the special effects were better.

Jokes aside I would really be interested to know what back bone these forums run off of? servers, spead, ram, db size..

Do you think the admins could post a thread some where with this info? There was a thread a long time ago but I am sure it is out dated.

That was one of the best episodes. I mostly watched The Outer Limits though.

Big Red Switch? The last computer I had with one of those was about two or three boxes ago.....

Good to see you're still onto it - keep up the good work.
