Hi Guys...

Okay so I am looking for a wireless card. I have searched and searched for this forum page at the Backtrack3 forums that had supported cards, but after an hour I gave up.

Basically what I need is a cheap (it does not have to have good range, it just needs to work) usb wireless dongle that supports Master Mode.
I would also like it to support aircrack-ng with packet injection (to do some pentesting). i.e. it also supports monitor mode.
Also if possible, I would like it to be to be totally free (the driver I mean. as in open source free.) However I will buy one that relys on proprietary drivers if that is what is needed.
It doesn't need to have an antenna or anything.
I have looked at page after page of linux wireless comapatability, but they don't have the information I need.
And I did not post this on a whim... I did over an hour of searching the web, but I guess I did not search with the right terms :)

I know one of you wireless guys will have or know of a card that supports all this. I know there are probably many, but I don't want to buy the wrong one or even worse, buy the right card only to find out that they updated the version to v2 and it doesn't work right.......

Thanks so much!
Kory

By the way, if someone knows that bt3 forum link, that would be enough.
In the meantime I will keep searching....

Okay.. wow I just stumbled onto the thread I was talking about..... Finally :)
But I realized that the post was from 2006 (and hasn't been updated)
so I still want to put my question out there as all the cards on there are quite old...
thanks
Kory

I found the EW-7318USG, which is about $30, and it supports injection and aircrack, but it doesn't support Master Mode (hostapd) so It is a no-go... Anyone have any suggestions?

I am beginning to think this doesn't exist. The only driver listed as having all good modes (AP monitor injection etc) is the b43 driver. But it doesn't support hostapd. ??
Plus I have yet to find a usb broadcom chipset that is supported. hm... I have seen the ubuquity cards and it looks like they support a lot, but not the usb versions (that I have seen) plus they are a bit expensive....
Does anyone know? :(

Yeah, I would be very interested as well! I'm builind a sort of NAS that I want to be really configurable, but it only has one slot and that's for the RAID... So I need a Wireless USB that supports master mode as well.

Please help!:D

Hey!
Looks like an interesting idea (the raid box)
Looks like we are in the same boat.
I am on a tx2000z laptop, so no pci cards or anything. Thanks for the link. I am going to watch it closely :)
(also my 400th post!)
