I recently switched from Windows, loving ubuntu so far but I have one huge problem. The keyboard layout is very different from the "real" layout when using symbols and punctuation. For example, I can figure out how to use the @ symbol any more. When I try pressing shift 2, I get quotation marks instead. There are other symbols as well that I cant seem to use.

Any help would be much appreciated. Right now, I am using the Canada layout and the HP pavillion model.

PS. I was able to use those symbols in this post by copy pasting them from the internet.

Probably your keyboard layout is mis-configured?

Navigate to 'System' -> 'Preferences' -> 'Keyboard'
