I will soon be in the market for a laptop and am strongly considering a macbook. I will be running Ubuntu primarily, but occasionally will dual boot into OS X.

I was interested in knowing if there are significant snags, or if the how to's are pretty straightforward. Also wanted to know if the hardare support for macbooks is complete in Ubuntu, or if there are a lot of things that just don't work.

Works/Worked great for me under Hardy.

Bit of tweaking required, all of which is covered on the Macbook Pro wiki page, especially to overcome the fan/heating issues and to get the video to provide all the desktop effects.

Intrepid, on the other hand, seems to be a different story but it is also still an alpha release as the fglrx driver seems to be out of sync/step with the Xorg build in intrepid, something I'm sure will get sorted prior to release.

ubuntu is great on the macbook..

The hardware itself is another thing, mine is developing cracks is it shell after normal wear and tear.

I personally will never buy apple products again :(
They are clearly defective by design, to quote other apple hatin' groups.
