OK, I'm sure I messed something up, but I'm not sure where to start. I've been using Xubuntu for about 2 months. When I first booted, I had no problem using my dvd drive. Now, my computer won't even recognize its existence or power it up. Any pointers?

Try unplugging it and reinsert with power off. Maybe the drive just failed. Try booting a live dvd or cd from it. Verify whether or not it's a hardware issue. Also check bios settings at computer boot. F2, or whatever yours is.

I rechecked the bios and it appears that you're right. There is a hardware issue. The devil is in the details.

Thanks

I know this is late, but I wanted to make sure others knew that the issue was hardware connection. I pulled the DVD and re-inserted it and all is well.

Sorry for the delay and thanks for all the help so far.
