View Full Version : [ubuntu] Is there a way to get icons on the desktop into a list format?

I'm a very new Ubuntu user and I'm hoping to dump XP altogether. I'm going through a list of some things I can do in XP, and figuring out how to do them in Ubuntu. As I work my way through list, I find that I'm left mostly with utilities. I have seen plenty of sites listing Windows alternatives, but they all seem to include the same major items (Open Office, Gimp, etc. - the things most people know already).

One simple little utility allows me (in XP) to show icons on the desktop as a list, instead of a bunch of massive icons. So I end up with the ability to have icons on my desktop while still maintaining a clean look - like this:

Is there a way to do this in Ubuntu? Thanks.

Does not seam like it is possible on the desktop. You should perhaps add the idea to Ubuntu Brainstorm

You could try stacks applet in AWN. It would allow you a list but not on the desktop.
