How do I enable 5.1 surround sound? Quake Wars won't let me set it, it's only detecting 2 speakers. I have an Envy24 card.

Also: Sound is horribly distorted in games, and is missing most of the frequencies. I've tried all of the output options (Autodetect, ALSA, Pulseaudio, OSS, ice724) but the sound is distorted and crackly in all of them. Music playback from Rhythmbox is fine. I recall that you used to be able to fix this by running "killall esd" in a terminal, but I tried killall pulseaudio, esd's equivalent and it didn't help. If I use my onboard sound it's fine, but I don't want to use it, I want to use my sound card, for a number of reasons.

PS: How do I get the Envy24 Control panel working? I think it might give me some troubleshooting options for the above problems, but when I run it, I get a message that I don't have an Envy24, when I definitely do.
