well, first and formost, you won't find info on attacks on this forum. there are numerous other places on the web to obtain this info. you might want to look into the foundstone stuff at mcaffee.
second, there is no such thing as "hacking from ubuntu"; there is just "hacking". if you know how to do it on one system, then you can do it on another. if you don;t know how to do it, then focusing on the system that you are using will not help you learn it.
third, society has built up a romantic image of a "hacker" as someone who presses a few buttons, and can do whatever they want. this cannot be further from the truth. it's a mind-numbingly dull process in reality.
wow, didn;'t realize how old this thread was. prolly shouldn't have bothered to reply. sorry mods.

It might be old but people are actually posting here again.. so... why close it?
Would anyone care to say any tips for a wannabe hacker? How does one start? Programming languages?

networking protocols and server administration. the programming comes much much later, after you understand what it is that you are programming.
that's all you'll get from me. seriously, don't use your soon-to-be-aquired skills for the darkside. they may have cookies, but you only get them on Sunday night when they let you out of solitary confinement, and you have to protect them from your fellow inmates long enough to scarf them down.

Sure, first use windows. Second use AOL as your service provider. Third check out hackers.com. Fourth download and install everything you can from sites like warezseeker.com
Now on the other hand if you want to become a network security professional use linux and go to sites like http://www.backtrack-linux.org/information-security-training/

just download backtrack iso and Digg in till u mastered it , then i would say u got the basics. And hacking is not easy , it is really tough game , needs utmost determination , hard work, innovation, attitude to learn , ability to get to understand a 1000 page book in 15 hrs, great will power , a cool mind and a hint on genius . And dont try to become crackers ( that is not a good option and and not encouraged here ).The guys who dream of breaking into emails or credit or wire fraud are crackers . if u have same ambitions , then leave this forum , else look for guys who try to get a workaround to their prob of linux and for others and learn from them.

Hacking doesn't have strict rules, basically you're just looking for security exploits in software, mostly the open source stuff that people don't update. Look for websites built on:
- Joomla
- Wordpress
- Gallery
- OSCommerce
- PHPBB
- vBulletin
These are all open source software solutions where exploits are found daily. Patches are released but most web administrators don't update right away if at all and these sites are left open to attack.
A big one to read up on is SQL injection, this can easily give you administrator access to a lot of different websites.
