View Full Version : [ubuntu] Hardy Heron seems to run slow.

Hello. I have been using Ubuntu for a couple years now, but still consider myself a newbie so please be nice.

Here's my situation. On all distributions up to Feisty, my laptop has run Gnome very well with no issues. After Gutsy came out, there was a bit of a snag with Compiz accompanied by an easy workaround. When I did a fresh install of Hardy, I ran into trouble. I did the normal work around and came across an interesting problem. The desktop cube revolved smoothly until a window was in view. Moving a window is very choppy, and so is scrolling.(Looks similar to scrolling in windows without a driver loaded.) Animations were choppy etc. I turned off desktop effects and everything is still choppy.

Pardon the horrible comparison, but is going from Gutsy to hardy like going from XP to Vista in that it requires better hardware to run it?

I am running a 1.6 GHz Processor, Radeon 320m GPU, 512 RAM, and 60GB hard drive.

Thank you in advance if someone replies.
