Will Linux ever come out to challenge Windows?

Ubuntu is almost there,,.. but honestly, sometimes i struggle to learn what i'm doing,, and it can be frustrating having to search the forums for every little thing.

seems like we need a group of biggies (IBM+DEll+HP) to make a concerted effort to put out a Linux OS with EVERY computer sale.

(1)DVD= Linux "CORE" OS= Kernal, Application Manager, Web Browser
(2)DVD= LINUX Applications- full variety of LINUX Certified Applications

i really dont understand how a FREE OPEN SOURCE OS cannot be made better and cheaper than Windows.

For the cost savings of delivering a Linux OS with each new computer sale instead of Windows,,, seems like they could include an awesome TECH SUPPORT deal with the purchase.

- DELL - saves $$$, offers bigger and better OS support, more profit/ better customer service?
- Consumer - for the same price as a windows machine would get a PLATINUM LEVEL tech support. same price/ more programs and options/ better tech support?

am i dreaming here? is this not possible?
what's going on?

i want/need mass Linux adoption!
games written for Linux!
full drivers and networking support!

you would think that a FREE OPEN SOURCE OS would be the OS of the world and the for profit companies OS would be the ones struggling to prove themselves. ???
