a better explanation is, what exactly do i need to run the game under linux?
if i buy the game through steam, i can just copy and paste the game's data files over, is there a way to just download the linux binary somewhere and run it in linux?

I don't think so. You need a CD Key For use with the Linux Installer to play the native version and i don't know if you get one via steam.

You can, but you need a UT2k4 disc to install it. I believe the CD key is kept in the Windows registry, so you could install it in Wine (through Steam) and look in the registry for the key.

Just to correct something: Steam holds the keys for the games your purchase....it's in the game properties somewhere, I just do not remember where exactly.

I know steam is on the Platinum list for the Wine AppDB, and I run it and often play portal and it runs flawlessly. Just install steam with Wine, and if you think you would like the game, go ahead and buy it. Steam works well and automatically installs the game.

steam gives you the cd key, like in a pop up window when you start the game. So, if i can just get ahold of a ut2004 cd, then i can use my steam ut2004 cd key to activate it and play?
i want to run it natively on linux, but steam is such an awesome service, and i can get a sweet deal on all of the unreal games for 50 dollars, or ut2004 alone (the actual cd) for 20 dollars, so id rather get the steam deal if at all possible.

You can purchase Unreal Anthology for 10 dollars at Gamestop. It includes Unreal 1 & 2, Unreal Tournament, and Unreal Tournament 2004. Spending 50 bucks at Steam is not worth it IMHO.

so i bought the unreal anthology.
but i cant seem to find a script that will install ALL of the games on linux. I have only found one that installs UT2004. Does anyone know of one that installs it for all of the games?
And how ironic, it has tux on the back of the box.

why would i mess with wine if these games run natively on linux?
this package has been out for over a year, surely there must be a script somewhere...but google is failing me.
