View Full Version : [ubuntu] Is it possible to get to computers talking though are router?

I would like to be able to get two computers talking through a router/wireless modem. Can this be done? One is connected with a network cable and the other wireless, using the printer would be an advantage to.

ya! it's possible to share but I don't understand what you mean by "talking". Do you mean ping? or for gaming?

If what you mean by 'talking' is 'connection', Yes. Your router can act as a switch at the same time even if you have to 2 different network addresses for both wired and wireless. You can also access network resources such as printing, file sharing, or simply just to connect computers for entertainment purposes.

So how do I go about this? All I want to do is share the printer and access each others hard disk for backup ect.

Need more info... what OS on each machine, where is the printer connected...

Ok, I had an aborted attempt at setting up ubuntu on the other machine, looks like it will be xubuntu on one and ubuntu on the other.

The printer will be connected to the ubuntu machine.
