Hey guys, I was wondering what you guys thought was one of the best (or what you use) as an rss reader in ubuntu. It doesn't really matter to me whether it is standalone or online since im always on my laptop, but some features have caught my eye:

1. My desktop is empty so having a _nice_ rss program built into the desktop would be really cool.
2. Since im probably going to have to open links to firefox anyway, maybe a good firefox rss might be good as well.

Anyway thanks!

Anyone have any good web based ones? I mean i have tried google reader and it just doesnt have the feel, maybe a desktop application that could sync with google reader and also display the feeds built into my desktop? That would be the best!

I believe you can do some minor RSS viewing in Conky. I would look into that, and then you could integrate some RSS feeds into your desktop.

Sage is a lightweight Firefox plugin for RSS.

And as far as I recall (for I don't use the feature) Firefox also has "Live" bookmarks which works similar to an RSS feed reader.

I use Lifera, but have previously used Akregator. The question is really what window manager you are using. Lifera for GNOME/GTK+ and Akregator for KDE. :)

If you want something on the desktop, could always try installing screenlets as that has ClearRSS which is a RSS reader widget, probably loads of themes for it available on gnome-look aswell

Personally, I use Bloglines (http://www.bloglines.com). I have tried a few for the desktop, but I like the convenience of being able to check my RSS feeds from multiple computers without having to export/import them every time I add or delete a feed.

Don't forget to get the Google Reader Watcher (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4808) add-on for Firefox.

I've just started using Opera browser and it's RSS feeder is really nice. Run in the side panel and is easy to move it out of the way.

I was using google reader.

I've also loved using Adobe Air's Snakr. I think beta 9 was just released in linux. Snakr runs right next to the bottom bar of the desktop. It's really pretty.
