It's anyone's guess.

Would anyone have predicted in 1990 that Apple would be the king of portable music players? Had anyone even heard of Linux in 1990? Did Windows even have a GUI in 1990 (Windows 3.1 doesn't count)?

What will happen? Who knows?

Microsoft could decide to get out of the operating system business and do something else. Apple could decide to get out of the computer business and stick with portable electronics. Maybe netbooks will take off and Linux will actually gain some mass consumer marketshare. Maybe things will just stay as they are.

Maybe after a while we won't even have computers.

Well if microsoft keeps doing what it is doing and Apple along with others keep going there routes.
