I've spent the last few hours combing the posts and have seen a few replies about my video card (ATI radeon express 1150), but I can't seem to get anything to work.

This card was working fine when I installed ubuntu 8.04. Then my motherboard burned out. It was replaced (under warranty) with supposedly the same one. When the guy installed it, he was puzzled because he had to reinstall video drivers in WinXP. Ever since then, I can't use Ubuntu.

The specific problem is that the screen has "double-vision." I see 2 images of everything on screen, offset by 50%, with a ton of downward scrolling flicker and a 2 inch vertical black space on the right.

I have gone so far as to wipe the ubuntu partition and try to reinstall, but the screen looks as awful in the live CD as when it was installed.

This is a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop, AMD64 athlon x2, ATI radeon express 1150. Not sure of exact motherboard model.

I'd love to reinstall ubuntu - any ideas? Should I wait for 8.10? Thanks

Sorry, I should have asked this in the installation/upgrade forum.
