Hi guys, first timer here :) Currently a windows desktop and server specialist testing out ubuntu.

I have downloaded the 8.04.1 version from www.ubuntu.com and I burned the ISO to a DVD. My test bed is a Dell Inspiron 1150 Laptop. I booted from the CD and after seing it load the ubuntu icon and the bar going back and forth it finally started filling the bar. Once the bar filled it went to a orange screen showing a heron on it and it has sat there for the past 20min without doing anything. Any key combination I've tried hasn't worked and while in the beggining the mouse moved, it doesn't anymore.

Any ideas?

Oliver

Try booting again.

Check your disc.

Burn at a slower speed.

Have a look here -

Check that your computer satisfies the system requirements. If it has less than the minimum RAM (384 megabytes I believe), it will not be able to progress past the desktop background.

The system has 512mb ram.

I have rebooted the machine and I am running a disk integrity check now. Why would burning it at a slower speed fix it?

Thanks so far anyways! :)

Right, found the problem! Just checked the diagnostics and found that it actually only has 256mb ram lol! Sorry about that, will test on a better PC now.

Cheers guys!

Oliver

Edit: The disk check didnt find any problems btw.
