I looked around for this, I'm sure it is here but all I could find were discussions of people having issues getting Windows working after they installed Ubuntu as well.

I would like to test a few program with Ubuntu and learn more about Linux.

I can't give up Windows just yet, maybe some day with a little luck. :)

I have Windows SP Home on a Sony notebook. I mention the Sony notebook because when I tried to install my generic XP Pro on this notebook nothing worked. I didn't want to go hunt down ever driver for the 5 year old notebook so I gave up and installed with my Sony Disk.

When I boot with Ubuntu from CD ROM all works just fine, other than kind of slow. So I would love to be able to boot off my hard drive at will.

So how difficult is this? And how do I go about it. I saw the install button on the Ubuntu desktop but I doubt it would be that easy. :) I recently moved to the Philippines so I have only this old notebook for now.

I have 7.04 on CD ROM

Thanks for the help.

I'm not much more experienced than you, but here's the series of duel-booting walkthroughs that I'll be using to try and set up duel-boot this weekend:

http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_xp_and_linux_xp_installed _first.htm

(The walkthrough is for SP 3 and 8.04. If I were you I'd go with 8.04 - I suspect it's easier to install - unless you have a specific reason for using Feisty over Hardy)
