Hi, I'm looking for a few more radio stations to "tune" into when the usual suspects suck (like they're doing now). I'm listening to wnur from Chicago, and the current from Minneapolis, but there are times when neither of them has anything good on.

The timing of this post is pretty closely related to the fact that I finally got around to setting up xmms. I can't believe how easy it is now to listen to streams.

I usually like hip hop, alternative, anything relaxed and I HATE pop! AAAHHH!! just thinking about it makes me want to do this: ](*,)

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yes its an Australian radio station, it is one of the very few national stations avalible all over here, and online, im listening to it right now. It has good international and Australian Hip Hop. Stuff you will never have herd of but 99% of people who I ask like them.

Its not just hip hop, its all genres, but there is a hip-hop program, one for rock, metal, dance, techno, requests etc. At the moment is daytime programs so its mainly music but some talk back, like a ration of 5:1 music to talk

No pop, its an alternative station with no adds.

If you like hip hop, see if you like Muph'N'Plutonic (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=AapD25zs-zY) or Hilltop hoods or Drapht (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=4_E7sxsepgs&feature=related) all Aussi hip hop artists. They are the best I know.

somafm.com is pretty awesome, and they have a wide variety of decidedly independent music. Some of their stations are pretty weird, but some are really good chill music (secret agent, Illinois street lounge, lush).

radioxy.com is very good alternative indie.

radioparadise.com goes between awesome indie stuff and annoying world muzak. So it's a tossup. That's one of the first places where I've heard some of my favorite bands, but it also makes really frustrated sometimes.

Don't know if you'll like this but it's the Auckland Uni radio station and has quite a wide variety of music, mostly alternative stuff. I listen to it quite a bit.

holy crap Whiffle, that's the funniest icon i've ever seen. the only thing funnier is imagining some guy walking around with that on at some formal occasion. thanks for the continuing ideas everyone.

Yeah they are among the best.

When I'm looking for new stations to explore I fire up Streamtuner, thousands of stations to search among right there.
