Hello everybody,

I run a Kubuntu Hardy Heron System and I'd like to replace my old graphics adapter with a passive one.

I think 3D or compatibility with games isn't a factor, I mainly use the machine for ( software ) testing with virtual machines.

The adapter should have 2 DVI connectors, TV Out and a fanless cooling system.

I took a look at ASUS EAH3650 SILENT , but I heard about users having driver problems.

Which card would you recommend?

Make sure it is not an ATI card If its Nvidia or even an Intell GMA then your fine.

The 3650 should be a good card as long as you're not trying to do a fresh install of Ubuntu on it. Just be sure to follow this guide: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Hardy_Installation_Guide

Make sure it is not an ATI card. If it's Nvidia or even an Intel GMA, then you're fine.
Please stop with the old stereotypes. Once upon a time, ATI's drivers were horrible and didn't support AIGLX/Compiz, but now they're pretty good (just a bit difficult to install on Debian/Ubuntu). Furthermore, the open-source radeonhd driver rocks and full acceleration for R6xx and R7xx cards should be coming soon.

If you don't think nvidia or intel cards have issues, do a search of these forums and you'll find loads of threads on them.

What do you think about a Nvidia NVS 285 card?

Do I have to worry about the performance of the adapter, when running 3 or more virtual machines?
