Hi All -

I'm brand new to Ubuntu and I would like to use it instead of windows, but I'm having an issue - the default open source ATI driver doesn't perform well with my Visiontek x1550 PCI 256mb video card. The refresh rate is so poor that i can barely surf the web without frustration. Can anyone help me?

Check to see if your card is listed in the Restricted driver manager. its under System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers.

It says the following:

"No Proprietary Drivers are in use on this system"

In the text field, it says:

ATI Accelerated Graphics driver Not in use

Clicking enable and restarting the system doesn't appear to improve the performance..... Thoughts?

If that doesn't work I would try Envy
