I have an old Compaq Armada e500 laptop, and Ubuntu is keeping the maximum resolution at 800x600, and it should go up to 1024x768. How do I bump the resolution up?

Have you tried going into system - preferences - Screen Resolution, there should be very easy option in increasing your resolution

Not a clue. I think it's an ATi Rage derivative for laptops.

Hi

Try in terminal

sudo displayconfig-gtk

Enter your password. In the model section select "generic" and then choose the LCD resolution you want
