HP xt1155 Sound is weak, Via 8233

Hi all, Just installed ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop, HP xt1155, and the sound is working but not all the way. It is like it is stuck at the lowest setting and will not get louder. In alsa it is set at 100%. I have the via8233 sound chip in my laptop. Tried doing the modprobe snd-via82xx, didnt help. Any other ideas?
