I'm putting together a website for a band my cousin is in. The site is www.prymalrhythm.com

The current image you see if you visit that URL is a white text-like graphic on a dark grey background.

1. I'd like to isolate the white part in the best fashion so as to preserve as much detail as I can, and then past it in over a different layer (like an image of a sky in the background). I'll colorize the text graphic later with the gradient tool, which I know how to do. Magic wand would do a decent job, but I'm looking for something a little better... a mask?

2. After I change the color from white to something else (gold in this case) I need to add some kind of bevel effect to the text to give it an elevated, embossed look... I don't know if I'm describing what I mean very well...

3. On the side, I am curious if there is anyway for gimp take like a selection and vectorize it so it could be increased in size with sharp edges.

Thanks!

Its a pretty sharp graphic, so the magic wand would work, or you could try "select by colour" (SHIFT+O)

If you've cut the logo and placed it on a new transparent layer, the "alpha to logo" menu in Filters has some preset effects that will give similar results to what your after.

That would be handy, not sure though

That Alpha to Logo... WOW!!! I had no idea Gimp could do something THAT cool. I mean @##@$@!!! That's so cool. Thanks for the hint!
