To start off, i am a beginner at linux. So maybe my problem has noting to do with Mythbuntu.

But the kernel panic started right after installing Mythbuntu (via the link on the mythbuntu website http://mythbuntu.com/existing-ubuntu )

I just finished a ubuntu 8.04.1 clean installation in a software raid1 setup, followed the tutorial:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SoftwareRAID

After that i let ubuntu install updates (about 115, last night), rebooted and everything seemed to work.

Next on my list was mythtv, so i wanted to try mythbuntu.
Clicked the link, went through the setup, rebooted:

/init: /scripts/local : 138 : Syntax error: Unterminated Quoted string Kernel Panic.

I did change that script (like it sais in the raid tutorial), but i rebooted after those changes. So i don't think that did it. But - as i am a noob - i am not sure.

Does anybody know hou to fix this without reinstalling ubuntu?

I cannot seem to get access to the commandline, because both (normal and recovery) choices in grub stop at the error and the system does nothing... except for the nice blicking lights on my keybord :) )

Thx in advance

OK, i've given up.

I reinstalled Ubuntu again and installed mythtv via apt-get.

It sort of worked, but it's to much of a hassle to install the tvgrabber, getting the tvguide to work, etc...

Yup, back to winblows. Mediaportal or MCE.

Maybe i'll try again in a year...

Why donīt you try to install mythbuntu directly instead of using Ubuntu install first? Secondly if you save your database, most of the settings will be preserved. And third, MCE is in my opinion far more buggy than the Mythbuntu.
