i used the default lamp install and want to know if i can somehow make a actual web address for my server without having to purchase a name. Instead of using my ip to get on?

Go to dyndns.com. You can use that to make a free name that goes to your server.

or no-ip.com

depending on your modem/router you can directly do dynamic updates there.... if not, there's the noip2 client for the no-ip.com service.
