I have a 1920x1080 tv and I connect to it via HDMI. The GUI displays fine, but when I play live TV, the width fits ok, but the height is too short. It is squashed down so everything looks fat. I have tried the TV settings, but I knew that wouldn't help because the mythtv gui and the desktop display correctly.

Any suggestions?

What type of programming are you trying to display (720P, 480i, 1080P, etc.)? What resolution is your desktop displaying?

try changing the aspect ratio in myth. You can try pressing "w" key while watching a recording or livetv and you can go to Setup->TV Settings->Playback and play with the aspect ratio and zoom settings.

Mainly 1080i, but all of the above depending on what my antenna is pulling in.
My desktop resolution is 1920x1080.

You would think that I would stretch the top/bottom but that doesn't work, it stretches it but then it cuts it off in the middle of the screen...strange. Yeah, it looks like I have to squeeze in the sides and then do a stretch zoom.

The quality isn't as good as the direct connection to my TV tuner. I'm using the HDHomeRun, so I don't know if there is slight quality loss because of simply running it through the HDHomeRun and a computer or if all the stretching and zooming is affecting it. It's not bad, but there is a noticeable difference.

Thanks for the info, but is this really normal to do all this and suffer some quality? My TV seems to scale automatically with it's built in tuner and Windows XP MCE seems to scale automatically also. By the way, my TV is set to "just scan", so it's not doing any stretching or zooming at the same time.
